Jo Dee Messina covered Megan Moroney’s breakout single during a recent show, and the Emo Cowgirl shared her reaction.
Messina played “Tennessee Orange” when she took the stage in Moroney’s hometown of Douglasville, Georgia, and shared a clip of her performance on TikTok and Instagram on Sunday (August 17). The “Heads Carolina, Tails California” icon caught Moroney’s attention. She wrote in the comments that the cover was “amazing 🧡😍,” and shared Messina’s rendition on her instagram story on Monday (August 18).
“I met somebody, and he's got blue eyes/ He opens the door, and he don't make me cry/ He ain't from where we're from, but he feels like home/ Yeah, he's got me doing things I've never done/ In Georgia, they'd call it a ‘sin’/ I’m wearing Tennessee orange for him”
Moroney released her award-winning breakout single on her powerful debut studio album, Lucky, in 2023. Moroney’s first record also included “I’m Not Pretty,” the title track, “Girl in the Mirror” and more. She followed it with her highly-anticipated sophomore project, Am I Okay?, last summer, and most recently, the reigning Country Music Association New Artist of the Year has delivered “6 Months Later.” Watch Messina's rendition of Moroney's breakout single here:
