After winning Entertainer of the Year at the 51st annual CMA Awards on Wednesday night, Garth Brooks admitted backstage at the event that he lip-synced his performance during the award show's live broadcast.
"Right now we're in the middle of 12 shows in 10 days. We've got four days [where] we're doing two shows a day," said Brooks. "We decided to lip-sync it because my voice just isn't going anywhere and we wanted to represent country music the best we can."
Despite that explanation, fans quickly took to Twitter to express their disappointment and outrage over Brooks' decision to not sing live. "When your whole life is ruined because you saw @garthrbrooks on the #CMAAwards lip sync," one fan tweeted, while another wrote, "Entertainer of the Year should not be given to a guy that lip syncs!!"
