Jimmy Buffett has turned the drunken slacker theme of his lone Top 10 hit, “Margaritaville,” into a multi-platform lifestyle brand that’s made him richer than The Boss. (Forbes says Buffett’s worth $550 million, compared to Bruce Springsteen’s mere $460 million.) But as The New York Times Magazine notes, “The more successful you become at selling the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle, the less you are seen as believably living the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle.”
Case in point: The 71-year-old Buffett only occasionally drinks margaritas these days, explaining, “No sugar and no carbs—except on Sunday.”
Buffett also no longer smokes weed. He now vapes and enjoys watching Game of Thrones.
