Morgan Wade opened up about a procedure she plans to undergo as a preventative measure for her health. The âWilder Daysâ artist also took a moment to share her gratitude, in addition to a message to those who are âupsetâ about her decision, in a comment she shared in an Instagram comment and on her story on Wednesday (May 24).
Wade, 28, confirmed that she was diagnosed with a RAD51D mutation. The National Cancer Institute lists it among several other protein-truncating variants in genes that are strongly associated with breast cancer risk, including BRCA1 and BRCA2, among others. Wade also pointed her social media followers to facingourrisk.org for more information about RAD51D.
âIn November Iâll undergo a double mastectomy as a preventative. As always appreciate you all â¤ď¸,â Wade wrote in a caption on Instagram on Tuesday (May 23), sharing a screenshot of a Page Six report about her decision to move forward with the double mastectomy. She added in her caption that women with the RAD51D mutation âhave about a 10-20 percent lifetime risk for ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer (these three cancers and their risks are related and are often referred to together as ovarian cancer). (They also) have about a 20-40 percent lifetime risk for breast cancer with a tendency for triple-negative breast cancer.â
Wadeâs post has since drawn hundreds of comments, including supportive messages from fellow artists Brittney Spencer, Lindsay Ell, Maren Morris and Jason Isbell, among others. Wade shared in a comment on Wednesday:
âThank you all so much for the love. I feel so blessed to have so much support. â¤ď¸ to those of you who are upset (I donât understand why) that I am taking preventative measures - please donât waste your time. I want a long healthy life. Thatâs why Iâm doing this. I am not excited to chop off parts of my body. I am not excited to be laying in a bed for a bit recovering. But I am happy to know that after November I will have peace of mind. I am in the hands of a great doctor / plastic surgeon. I am thankful for detecting this now. Much love to you all â¤ď¸âÂ
Wade told Page Six that her âonly qualmâ about moving forward with the preventative surgery is that she wonât be able to work out as frequently as usual during her recovery period. Otherwise, however, sheâs âfeeling fine.â
Wade confirmed shat she would undergo a double mastectomy shortly after announcing the release date of her highly-anticipated sophomore album: âI have no choice but to be authentic. And I have to feel what I feel. And right now, Iâm really feeling the music. Itâs been a long time coming, but Iâm so excited to finally tell yâall that my next album is done! âPsychopathâ is the title of my sophomore project and itâs officially out August 25th. â¤ď¸â
